Beavers face closure if Leaders cannot be found

Started by Site Administrator

1st BERNWOOD FOREST SCOUT GROUP is growing, in spite of not having its own Headquarters, but currently is in danger of losing one of its sections due to lack of adult leadership. The Beaver Colony [ Beavers age between 6 and 8 years] currently has only one warranted leader and should she be unable to attend, the meeting has to be cancelled. It is a requirement that a warranted leader must be present at every meeting. The Colony is expanding but a second warranted leader is essential to permit this growth or, more important, to ensure the Colony remains open. There are currently 18 Beavers in the Colony and there are some on a waiting list [until they are old enough] and one or two more who will join us shortly
The role of an Assistant Beaver Leader **within the Scout Association is not onerous. Weekly meetings are usually 1 hour long and comprise games, creative activities and fun www.scouts.org.uk will enable you to find out more. An Assistant Leader would hold a full warrant and be able to run a meeting in the absence of the Beaver Leader
To become a regular leader means a commitment to attend on a weekly basis, CRB Clearance, a meeting with the Appointments Advisory Committee and the need to undertake module based training within 3 years. Once a term it would be necessary to meet with the other leader/s to put together a weekly programme.
Another option to ensure regular adult help is that of Colony Assistant**. This role does not require the need to train but does need regular commitment on a weekly basis and CRB clearance. A Colony Assistant could not run a meeting in the absence of a warranted leader
The need for adult help is to ensure the ratio of adult/children is maintained and to assist deliver the programme is met by parental help on a weekly rota basis.
** both these positions could be held on a ‘job share’ basis i.e. attendance on alternate weeks or as arranged with the Beaver Leader .
Age is not barrier – there is no upper age limit to holding a warrant or being a helper – in fact grandparents and those who have retired have a great deal to offer our young people today.
Please give some thought to giving a little time to supporting the Colony - we must not close !!
Give me a call [without obligation] and let me explain in more detail what we need.
